September 2018 Meeting Minutes

Mid-Illinois Corvette Club

September 10, 2018

Membership Meeting Minutes

The September 10, 2018 meeting was called to order at 6:32 PM by club president Steve Rees. There were 67 members present. Welcome all!! If there are any corrections to information posted on the website, please send to the club email - midillinoiscorvetteclub@gmail.com.

The club continues to grow, and there are many activities to participate in. One of them is the dinner @ 5 at Kep’s before the meeting. And there are many opportunities to volunteer – from serving on the board to leading an event to helping with the St. Jude Car Show or Autocross. Without our volunteers, we would not exist.

Program – None.

Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer John Hanson gave a detailed report from the last month. There was no discussion on the report. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept.

Secretary’s Report - The August 2018 meeting minutes, which were e-mailed to the membership or mailed to those not having e-mails, had no corrections needed. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept.

Governor’s Report – There are 28 clubs in the Midwest Region, but only 4 of them have a secure website – ours is one of the four – congratulations! The full report can be found on the web.

Activities – All events are on the web, and Rich will generally send the e-mail invite a couple of weeks before the event also.

September 21/22 – Mid America Funfest. Robin Jones will be going down on Friday – Elaine Kasky will go down on Saturday. Check the web for the particulars.

October 7 – Route 66 road trip.

October 13 – Party hosted by Tom Stanesa in Morton.

October 20 – Fall picnic hosted by Mike & Sandy Arnold. There will be a sign up sheet at the next meeting so you can indicate what you will bring.

Membership - Our membership is now at 183 members in 101 households.

Webmaster - please email any pictures you would like to have added to the website to Don Karnes @ karnesdon@gmail.com

Member Spotlight – Roger & Mary Stone are charter members of the club. Roger’s addiction started in 1961 with a T-Bird, but graduated to several Corvettes over the years, including collector cars and cars designated for travel. Many memories, fun trips & pranks played out on their travels.

Dan & Marguerite Gove are avid racers. Over the years they have had numerous Corvettes, and love taking them to the track. Dan showed several videos of racing that he had done the day before.

Old Business – Steve thanked the Nominating committee, Bruce Adamson, Jodie Marcy & Angel Smith for contacting all members to ask if they would be interested in running for a board position. The President, VicePresident, Activities Chairman, Membership & Governor will remain the same. Peggy Karnes will be the

Treasurer, and Steve will have to appoint someone for Secretary. Since there was only one person running for each office, it will NOT be necessary to create a ballot for a vote.

Mike Yager is still scheduled to be our special guest at the October meeting.

Only 3 members went to the Toluca Car Show. Roger Stone reminded members that if we want people to come to our show, then we need to support other car shows. He also suggested that it is not too early to start collecting items for the car show.

Bob Picton discussed the car show and how we need more club participation in order to continue having this each year. It takes a lot of work and effort from the club to make this event successful. He will have sign-up sheets available until January to see if we have enough participation to continue the car show.

Coupon Books are available for $30 a book. Please see Jessica Lowry to purchase one.

New Business – All of the club items that we had in storage in Morton have been moved to our new storage area located next to Uftring’s temporary location. It is the same building where you can store your Corvette for $55/month. It is climate controlled, pest controlled, has motion activated lights, and a secure entry system with cameras.

Club dues for 2019 are due in October - $71/couple or $61/single. These can be mailed to Tracy or paid at the Oct meeting.

If you have an item for sale, email all the information to the club email address.

Announcements – Members in the Spotlight next month will be Larry Fauber & Jody Lawrence.

Trivia and 50/50 – Trivia question: What is the floor made up of on the C5?

A) Balsa Wood, B) Stainless Steel. C) Aluminum. D) Fiberglass

Membership Meeting Minutes

The January 8, 2018 meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by our new club president Steve Rees. There were 51 members present and 3 guests. Welcome all!! The meeting was held at Five Points in Washington since Uftring’s was not available due to the fire that destroyed their buildings. Steve thanked the members from the former board for their service to the club. He welcomes any emails or texts with any comments. He urged participation by ALL members, and thanked all those that have volunteered in the past. He expressed thanks to Gary Uftring in particular, for his service to the community and the club, especially in light of their recent fire. Gary spoke about the awesome community support they have received, and promised that they would rebuild and be better than before! Jim Becker asked if there was anything the club could do – Gary just asked members to “have fun and keep the camaraderie active”.

Treasurer’s Report – New MICC Treasurer, John Hanson, gave the treasurer’s report for December 31, 2017 including a detailed breakdown of all transactions. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept as presented.

Moe presented a check for $353 that was collected from the bus drivers for the shoe fund. The kids were able to pick out 65 pairs of shoes when they went on their shopping trip. Thanks to all!

Secretary’s Report - The December 2017 meeting minutes as posted on the website were reviewed with one correction – the coupon books sold for $30, not $25 as stated. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept.

Activities – Our new activities chairman, Rich Anderson, welcomed everyone to the first event this year on Saturday, January 13th at Sky Harbor. Rich will be the chairman for the Car Show this year, but asked for volunteers. He also asked that if anyone wants to volunteer to host a group event he would appreciate it. From his survey it was determined that people like eating out, tours, scenic drives, and overnight trips, but would like to see new places added instead of the same old thing.

Membership – Steve reported that we are starting 2018 with 172 members in 94 households. Tracy sent a new e-mail listing the middle of December to all members. If there are any corrections, please let Tracy know.

Newsletter – Please send all information for the Newsletter by the 25th of the month.

Webmaster – No report.

Governor’s Report – Sandy Arnold had checked with NCCC to see if our insurance with them would cover the inventory lost in the fire – it does not. Gary said all items lost would be covered under Uftring’s insurance. Our equipment in the storage unit in Morton IS covered.

Program – Steve presented a report on “Top Tier Fuels” for Corvettes. There are many stations that sell it, Costco Warehouse being one of them.

Steve is hoping to add a new segment to the meeting where club members will be “spotlighted” each month. This month it was Steve & Colette Rees and Dan & Sherie Hittinger.

Old Business – The club Rang The Bells for the Salvation Army and collected $521.07. They had a late start on it last fall & could only do it for 2 days, they’re hoping to do better this coming year.

Rex McMorris brought up the use of CB radios when on club trips like they used to do.

New Business – Our new VP, Dan Hittinger, told the club that due to his & Sherie’s jobs, they would be moving to Cary NC and he was resigning his position. We wish them both the best of luck in their new endeavors. They will remain members of the club for the current year and hope to meet up on a club trip if possible. If anyone is interested in filling the position, please let Steve know.

The club supports 4 charities: The St. Jude Drive, The Car Show, Shoe Fund, and Salvation Army Bell Ringing – it was voted that we would continue to support these 4 charities.

Steve asked for volunteers for the By-Laws committee. We need 3-5 people for this task. Moe volunteered.

It was brought up about how much old inventory we have. The plan is to have a sale to clear out this merchandise which includes coats, shirts, stickers, wrist bands, caps & visors.

Announcements – The St. Jude Drive will be on May 17/18 this year. It is not too early to sign up and start soliciting.

May 14, 2018

Membership Meeting Minutes

The May 14, 2018 meeting was called to order at 6:36 PM by club president Steve Rees.  There were 56 members present and 6 guests:  Steve & Judy McWilliams, and Ryan & Amy Jones and family. Welcome all!!  Steve made mention of the fact that all of our equipment that was lost in the fire has been replaced thanks to the insurance from Uftring’s.  If there are any corrections to information posted on the website, please send an e-mail to the club email - midillinoiscorvetteclub@gmail.com.

Program – Rick Wolfe from Automotion Auto Detailing offered many tips on keeping your car looking good:  Wash the bugs off after a day on the road.  Don’t wash your car in the sun.  If you get polish on the black trim, a Magic Eraser (used lightly) will remove it.  It is best NOT to use a polish on the black trim as that will only attract dust.  For your windows, flour sack towels (Wal-Mart) work really well.  Do NOT use Armor All on your convertible top – best to let it dry naturally.  Most importantly, enjoy the clean car!!

Ryan and Amy Jones and their children expressed their thanks to the club for their St. Jude support.  Amy was a St. Jude patient when she was younger and is so grateful for the care she received - all at no charge to her family which she estimated would have been well over a million dollars.  This will be her 21st year and Ryan’s 27th year to participate in the St. Jude Run.

Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer John Hanson gave the treasurer’s report for April 30, 2018 including a detailed breakdown of all transactions.  A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept as presented.  John asked if members wanted to hear the full report of all transactions.  It was voted on and approved to continue with the detailed report.

Secretary’s Report - The April 2018 meeting minutes, which were e-mailed to the membership or mailed to those not having e-mails, had no corrections needed.  A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept.

Governor’s Report – Sandy Arnold still needs volunteers to drive to Quincy and work the autocross on Sunday, May 20th.   She also asked if there were any suggestions for autocross venues in our area – if you know of any, please let Sandy know.  Gary Uftring was again nominated for the Roger Clancy Humanitarian Award.  Her full Governor’s report can be found on the web.

Activities – Rich Anderson mentioned the activities for the coming month:

The St. Jude Drive will leave at 7 on Thursday, May 17th from Uftring’s.  Anyone is welcome to attend the send-off for the drivers.

May 26 - St. Jude Car Show

June 2 - Kartville with dinner to follow

Webmaster – No report

Member Spotlight – None

Old Business – In hopes of eliminating our inventory, ladies visors are on sale for $5 and men’s hats for $15.  Contact Jimmy Lowry if you are interested.

It was proposed by Sue McMorris that the club pay $250 for the Porta Potties that had to be rented for the Car Show since there will not be any access to restrooms this year.  Normally, all expenses for the car show are paid for from the profits, but she felt that since the club was in good financial shape we should absorb the cost.  A motion was made, seconded, and voted on to approve.

New Business – None.

Announcements – None.

Trivia and 50/50 – Since someone has been circling the answer on the Trivia question as it is being passed around, Jimmy elected not to draw a name.  He reminded everyone that this is supposed to be fun and not to spoil it for the rest of the members.

The 50/50 drawing was for $36.00 tonight and was won by Steve Rees, who donated it back to the shoe fund. Thank you Steve!

Adjournment - A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:30 PM.

New Business – Gary Uftring went with a group to the Chevrolet National Convention and was impressed by the changes coming up.  The redesign of the 2019 pickup is just one example.  They also learned that within the next 5 years, 50% of the cars will be all electric!

Work continues on the plans for the new dealership buildings – Chevrolet has to approve every inch of the new building.  There are 2 local contractors who are joining forces so the building can hopefully be done by January.  They are so appreciative for the support of the city and the firemen who worked long, hard hours to bring the fire under control.  Through the sale of T-shirts, they were able to donate thousands of dollars to the many fire departments that helped them so they could replace equipment that was damaged in the fire.

Announcements – Dan Hittenger had a “Thinking of You” card for Dale Nelson, one of the founding members of the club, and passed it around for everyone to sign.   Dale was in the nursing home but is now back at home.

Trivia and 50/50 – Trivia question:  In which year did Chevrolet not issue a Corvette due to remodeling?

A) 1983,  B) 1973,  C) 1990,  D) 1966.  The correct answer was A) 1983 and was worth $20.  Dale Baillez answered correctly and donated it to the shoe fund.  Thanks Dale!

The 50/50 drawing was for $41.00 tonight and was won by Buddy Turner, who donated it back to the shoe fund. Thank you Buddy!
