Membership Meeting Minutes

The February 12, 2018 meeting was called to order at 6:31 PM by club president Steve Rees. There were 47 members present. Welcome all!! The meeting was again held at Five Points in Washington since Uftring’s was not available due to the January fire that destroyed their buildings.  Steve wished Happy Birthday & Happy Anniversary to all those celebrating in February, especially Larry & Diana Mooney who are celebrating their 50th Anniversary on Feb 17th.  This information will be on the screen before the meetings, and is also posted on the website.  If there are any corrections, please send an e-mail to the club email -midillinoiscorvetteclub@gmail.com.

Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer John Hanson gave the treasurer’s report for January 31, 2018 including a detailed breakdown of all transactions.  A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept as presented.  The 2018 budget was passed out to the members, voted on, and approved.

Secretary’s Report - The January 2018 meeting minutes, which were e-mailed to the membership or mailed to those not having e-mails, had no corrections needed.  A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept.  Members like that the minutes are now being sent to them on e-mail, with no negative feedback on the procedure.

Activities – Activities chairman Rich Anderson reported that the club has events planned for March 3rd at the Comedy Club, and March 10th dinner at Noodles & Company and a show at Peoria Players.  If interested, you can sign up on the web and purchase tickets online.  Check the web for future events that are being planned.

Other events that the club may be considering are:  Corvette Adventures on June 7-9, Bloomington Gold on June 21, Black Hills Corvette Show July 17-21, and Vettes on the River August 25th.  Let Rich or anyone on the Activities Committee know if you are interested.

Peggy Karnes asked if anyone was interested in going to Circa 21 in Rock Island to see “Mamma Mia” after “Vettes on the River” in August.  If there is enough interest, she will call the hotel to get some rooms reserved.

Mourina Sweet said sign-up sheets for helping at the Car Show on May 26th were on the table, along with a “thank you” letter to give to the donors that you get donations from.

Membership – We had 2 new members join this month, Mike & Amy McCoy.  This brings our membership total to 176.

Webmaster – Don Karnes is our new webmaster and photographer.  If your picture is not on the web, please get with Don to get your picture taken – always nice to be able to put a name with a face.

Governor’s Report – Sandy Arnold reminded everyone of the raffle for NCCC.  A $50 ticket will get you a chance for $40,000 cash, or money towards a new Corvette.  All proceeds go to St. Jude.  Contact Sandy if you need a ticket.

Program – John Haase gave some tips on “Bringing your Corvette Out Of Storage”.  Clean it, wax it, put air in the tires, fill up the tank, drive it as much as you can & ENJOY!  While the car is still in storage, he doesn’t recommend starting it, but keep the battery charged.

John also updated the club on the progress Uftring’s is making in the 30 days since the fire.  They are operating out of the old WalMart location just East of their dealership.  He showed pictures of their temporary location and how it is coming together nicely.  All of the new equipment is “State of the Art” and will be moved to the new dealership once it is built.

Gary again thanked everyone for their support, and noted that the “team members” are what makes Uftring’s special.

Member Spotlight – Sandy and Mike Arnold & Rich and Mary Anderson gave interesting details on how their love of Corvettes evolved.

Old Business – Reminder that the 1st meeting for the St. Jude Drive is on Tuesday, Feb 13th.

New Business – Jimmy Lowry had volunteered to fill the VP position vacated by Dan Hittinger.  A motion was made, seconded, and members voted for Jimmy to fill the position.

The ballots from the last election were in a sealed envelope and needed membership approval to destroy them.  A motion was made, seconded, and approved to destroy the ballots.

This year will be the 25th anniversary of the club and it was suggested that we purchase 200 lapel pins at a cost of $4 each for a total of $800.  These would be given to each member.  A motion was made, seconded, and voted that the club would purchase these pins.  There are also tentative plans for an anniversary party on June 23rd at Timberlake.

Announcements – The St. Jude Drive will be on May 17/18 this year. It is not too early to sign up and start soliciting.

Trivia and 50/50 – Trivia question:  What was the year of the Corvette first major body change?

A) 1955   B) 1997   C) 1963   D) 1953.  The correct answer was C) 1963 and was worth $40.  Buddy Turner answered correctly and donated it back to the shoe fund. Thanks Buddy!

The 50/50 drawing was for $36.00 tonight and was won by Ray Fauber, who donated it back to the shoe fund. Thank you Ray!

Adjournment - A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:38 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Marilyn Carls, MICC Secretary
