Car Show 2017 Recap and Photos

The 2017 St. Jude Runners' Car Show was a great success. We had an amazing turnout with sixty-five Corvettes and ninety-nine other vehicles. The show saw some very unique and interesting cars. We would like to thank everyone for bringing their cars and those who came to see and hear the stories of them. Especially those who brought cars other than Corvettes, the unique blend of cars we had created a very interesting experience for all. A special thanks to all the volunteers who worked hard to create such an amazing car show both in planning and execution. We look forward to creating another great show in 2018!

A Special Thanks to Gary Uftring

The car show saw many members helping out to create an inviting and interesting experience for all. We are especially proud of our sponsor, Gary Uftring, for his entry and help at the car show. He sold drinks for several hours at the car show and stayed until the end to help take down the tables and tents. His efforts generated a lot of positivity among the show participants and the club enjoyed his company as he went to eat with the members after the teardown. Gary is an amazing sponsor and he makes us very proud time and time again. We can't thank him, Joe Knapp, and John Haase enough for all the support they have and continue to give our club and the St. Jude events.

The Mid-Illinois Corvette Club 19th Annual Charity Car Show Supporting St. Jude Runners – May 27th

To: All members of the Mid-Illinois Corvette Club (MICC)
From:  Linda Picton, Chairperson

Elaine Kasky who chaired the car show for many years is not available this year, so I was asked by Jim Gehrig to be the Chairperson of the MICC 2017 Charity Car Show. We are two months behind schedule trying to get ready for our May 27th car show, and we need all club members’ help to make it a success for our St. Jude runners the club has supported for many years along with our club sponsor Gary Uftring.

I apologize for the length of this letter, but we have so many new club members who know little about our car show and how it has been run for the past 18 years, so my goal of this email is to educate new members and remind past members how we will run the car show this year.

A few club members cannot put on a 200 participant car show so we need all club members to support this effort. So please sign up, as many hands make light work.  We will have car show sign-up sheets at the April and May club meetings. This year we want to pair up previous year workers with new club members who have not worked the car show so they will be trained for the future car shows. Setup of the car show will begin at 6:15 am to be ready for the 8:00 am opening. Set up includes putting up tents, tables, chairs, and class signs and we need around 20 club members to complete this task.

Car show is a rain or shine event with registration opening at 8:00 am and closing at 11:00 am. The car show entrance fee this year with advance registration will be $15 and $20 on the day of the show. Club members are encouraged to pre-register their entries. At 11:00 am, the car show voting ballots will be handed out and all ballots must be returned by 12:30 pm. As in the past years, voting is for our guests only and club members are not allowed to vote in order to insure fairness of the vote (since we have so many club members present at the show). We will do trophy presentation around 2:00 pm or as soon as the raffle completes. After the trophy presentation we will need workers for tear down and then we go to a restaurant to relax after a hard day’s work.

We need ALL club members to start soliciting for items to put in the goodie bags, e.g., ball points pens, key rings, note pads, hard candy, calendars, etc. (We will accept business cards and menus only if accompanied with either a cash or raffle item donation as we are not a free advertising car show). Raffle items can be anything you would like to receive yourself, such as gift certificates or products and services, and for the silent auction items, which are larger valued donations, please bring those items to the April and May club meetings. Let’s not forget items for the children as they like to choose items from our raffle table.

Please present a solicitation letter to a possible donor and if successful enter every donation on a club donation form. Give the donor a club thank you letter at the time you receive the item. These letters/forms will be available at the April and May club meetings. Please wear your name badge and club attire when soliciting if possible.

The car show trophies will be ordered next week, and we will have the same classes as last year with trophies for First, Second, and Third place winners. In the past, club members in addition to businesses have sponsored a $40 “Car Show Class” and we encourage all members to continue the giving to St. Jude by sponsoring a single or multiple car classes of your choice this year. The “Car Show Class” sponsors pays for the trophies we present to the winners.

The MICC 2017 Car Show Committee consists of the following club members: Linda Picton – Chairman, Mo Sweet, Sue McMorris, Sandy Arnold, Bob Picton, Jim Gehrig, and Sherie Hittinger.

Thank you all so very much for your help and participation in making the Mid-Illinois Corvette Club 19th Annual Charity Car Show a huge success.

If you would like to get started NOW, the car show letters/forms are available at Uftring Chevrolet in Washington. Please ask for John Haase to obtain them.

Yours Very Truly,

Linda Picton
